Summer School – CityLAB XII: Age-Friendly Cities

This is an opportunity, which is well aligned with the BOPALiM objectives by proposing a system-approach to age-inclusive cities. “Cities all over the world are ageing rapidly”(Buffel et al., 2024). To deal with this demographic disruption, policies increasingly prioritise ‘ageing in place’. However, public urban facilities and mobility services are under growing pressure. Ensuring that older adults remain connected to essential services, opportunities, and social life is a pressing urban challenge.

This summer school hosted from 29th June 2026 to 3rd July 2026 in Antwerp, Belgium will delve into the challengesthat urban policy makers, public administrators, and civil society organisations face in creating age-friendly cities. Particular attention is paid to the lived experiences of older adults, as well as to critical and reflexive co-productionmethodologies that support older adults in (re)claiming their “right to the city”. Applications can be submitted until 11th May 2026, although non-EU applicants are advised to apply by 12th March 2026. You can find more information and submit your application directly through the University of Antwerp.
